Steven M Sweat Personal Injury Lawyers, APC’s Military Spouse Annual College Scholarship
While we know that those actively serving or with prior military service may be eligible for various tuition assistance and student loan forgiveness programs, these are usually not available to the spouses of active U.S. Military personnel. These brave men and women support their spouses by “holding down the fort” during deployments and maintaining the household so that their spouse can serve our country. Oftentimes, military households are raising a family on a single military income and have expenses related to frequent moves depending upon where their spouse is stationed. In fact, according to a recent survey by Blue Star Families, many military households rank financial stress as their greatest concern even above the stress of deployments. In fact, 84% of spouses or partners of service members report worries about personal finances according to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. Couple this with the increasing costs of obtaining a college degree and this can mean spouses of active service members putting off going to college or foregoing working on their degrees altogether. This is why Steven M. Sweat, Personal Injury Lawyers, APC has set up a scholarship for spouses of people actively serving in the U.S. Military. We hope that this helps this important segment of our society.
